Dimension Defaults 1/16

When I open a project my dimensions are set to 1/64 per "US Architect 1/64", but I then change it to 1/16, but it never retains this and I ALWAYS have to come in and change every time I reopen the project. How can I have it ALWAYS default to the 1/16??

View sets remember all of your dimension settings and lots of other things.

I don't see my dimension settings in there. I only see them in my options > Project Preferences > Dimensions

Exactly.
That is where you create the dimension style.
Then in the view settings that RandyC showed you, you set the dimension style you want to use for that view.
Now when ever you open that view, or place it on a layout as a drawing, it will automatically have the correct dimension style - as well as all of those other settings.

If you open the view point in the Project Map, you have to manually set the dimension style (and all of the other settings) that you want to use.
Project Map view points do not remember any settings.
But the views you save from those view point do.

Ok. I already have a ton of views, so it sounds like i have to amend them all manually. I'm surprised there isn't some setting that applies to the whole project.

Yes, but you can select multiple views and change them all at one time.
Also, if they all use the same dimension style, if you amend that style all the views will automatically amend as they will still be using that style.

That is the whole idea of the views.
You create them with the settings you want them to use as you create them.
If you want them all to be the same then you can do that.
But you also have the flexibility of creating multiple views of the same view point - say a floor plan.
You can then have different settings for each plan vie - one can be in millimetres, another meters to 2 decimal places and another in feet and inches.

Hello - Sorry, not trying to be difficult, but when I open my project preferences > Dimensions > it's defaulted to 1/64. Why can I not just change that to 1/16 and have it be permanently set unless I override? If it defaults to 1/64, why wouldn't one be able to default it to 1/16?

Isn't that what the one above does? - US Architect 1/16

I have a different template (AUS) so don't have the same settings to check.

Unfortunately when you make changes, it becomes a 'Custom' style.
You then need to 'Store As' - either as a new style, or type the name in exactly as it was before to overwrite the existing style.

If you want to overwrite the existing style, press the 'Rename' button and copy the name, then cancel as you don't actually want to rename it.
Then make the changes you want and 'Store As' - now you can just paste the name to save re-typing it exactly.
You will get a warning that the profile already exists, which is good as you know you are then overwriting an existing style.

It would be nice to have some consistency, like in the MVO settings where you make the change and it is permanent straight away - this is what you are wanting.
Personally I don't like that either and wish there was an 'Update' button (like we used to have many versions ago).
Or the 'Store As' button allowed you to choose from the existing list if you want to use an existing name.

@Barry it does do that, but only for my current session. Once I close out, it goes back to 1/64.

So when you make your change and you "Store As', you are getting this warning?

Then you press 'Overwrite' and then press 'OK' to leave the Project Preferences (make sure you do not press 'Cancel' or just close the dialogue).

When I do this the changes stick.

I think I got it now. I created a set of defaults but never "set" it to that setting.
