Adding JPEG image to layout increases saved PDF way to much

I assume this is just the way it is, but I can't understand why adding a 1.6 mb jpeg to a layout causes the saved layout in PDF to balloon from under 3mb to over 9mb. The image is just 1.6 mb????

Does this make any sense, and are there any options? I reduced the jpeg to 75% quality already. It is not a huge deal, but when emailing several files at a time (normal) it makes a difference in what someone can except.

There are some compression settings with layout output options regarding those picture settings. Maybe should check them out.

ArchiCAD might not preserve the settings of the pictures imported into it, that could be impossible, and in particularly, not preserve them through to its layouts. Just a thought, I am not so sure about this. There are some moving parts to it. You can scale the pictures. You can move them, you can resize them. You can output them in a various ways and in a various concepts.

My first and best guess would be the PDF-settings in your output options dialog; jpeg compression level.

For years.. and I mean years, I have not used Publisher for saving pdfs, but the Mac printer dialogue. Using Publisher got it down to 2.2

Interesting that Mac print to pdf balloons it?

If you want to use Mac print dialog to output pdf's, you might want to make your own filters to reduce pdf file size. It's a little bit cumbersome procedure, but after you got your filters right, they will always be available to any program that can print. In your case the key is jpeg compression level.

I have made a few of different ones to reduce file size (in the picture; reduce1, 2 and 3). You can make other kind of adjustments too, and combine them all in to this one filter if you want to.

ColorSync tool can be found in your programs/additional programs folder (I can't remember the english name for that location).

Thanks for the info.. I will experiment with this. I didn't know you could make filters. The english name is Applications>Utilities>ColorSync
