<T>This is so frustrating. I am modeling an (e) house and set the Renovation Filter to Existing but every single wall, floor, stair, window, door, toilet, sink, line, text, label, etc is set for something else and doesn't sho correctly till I go back into the file and change it's setting...one at a timr.

Isn't there a way to globally tell this program that everything I am doing is EXISTING... that all library parts are EXISTING, to have to reset each thing is a waste of time and at the other end of the project, if I didn't set a couple of items, my views dont' display correctly...</T>

Did that , but when placing new windows, doors, etc have to go back into the toos after they are placed and change them to existing. All I want to do is have a button to tell AC that I am building Existing on the Renovation filter, not to every tool twice once to put the window in, and again to set it for Existing...

good response.....OP...did this resolve your issue?
Think of the renovation filter as the "pline". If you start a pline and it has an arrow, or certain linetype....and you complete your pline command. The next time you select "pline" again......it will place a pline with an arrow head and the linetype of the "LAST" pline you placed. I know, abit odd to not have a default but the "default" is the last command that specific function used.

Same for reno filters......I think. Guru's is this not the case?

it does not work like that, I know what you are saying, but the renovation filter DOES NOT TAKE A SETTING FROM ONE WINDOW TO THE NEXT, EACH TIME IT HAS TO BE SET.

hum....so, then if you had to place windows in say..."existing" renovation filter...all the time....then what you are saying is that it switches back to some other renovation filter?

I've found that with renovation filters, sometimes the naming conventions of the renovations filters themselves, if not out of the box, and are "customized" per the office naming convention, throws parameters out of whack.

For example, if you have "renovation filters" that have a " | " (bar) in the naming convention, then Archicad has a hard time exporting those filters out to an XML file. So I know there are some nuainces (sp?) that may cause reno filters to misbehave.
What I am saying: I set the Renovation filter to Existing. I pick a window, set it up to what I want, place it in a wall. It does not show, only the outline of the window shows, I then have to select that window, open it up and set the renovation setting to Existing,,,,then, only then does the window show. Have to do this for every window, door, toilet, roof, line... WHAT I AM SAYING IS THE EVEN THOUGH I SET THE RENOVATION FILTER TO EXISTING...I HAVE TO AGAIN GO INTO WHATEVER TOOL I USED AND TELL IT TO BE ON EXISTING....
even though when setting up my file i set the Renovation tool to Existing....

What I would like is for me to be able to dictate my settings when I set up the file so that I don't waste time doing everything twice....

why don't you try it...if you can set your renovation filter to Existing and place windows that show properly...please tell me how you did it.

ok, using the pull down menu in documents, scroll to the renovation filter, set it to existing.

draw a wall, open the wall tool, scroll down to renovation status...see that it is set for demo, change it to existing and to show on all revelant filters. Magic wand that wall, draw another wall, open the wall tool, scroll down to renovation status...see that it is set for demo, change it to existing and to show on all revelant filters.
The renovation FILTER only controls the display of what has been set already. You use the DEFAULT setting button to control the object when you're drawing. If you've got it set to Existing, then anything you draw will end up as Existing. And BTW, you can use these same default buttons to CHANGE the phase of an element.

Then either my AC18 program and/or the Bobrow Template has a bug that does not agree with want you pointed out. I will be trouble shooting this, but can reproduce the problem over and over, so I know it isn't me.

I set everything in the renovation tool to show, to be existing, but when I choose a wall, window, toilet...they all have their own settings which default to demo.

So they will have the status of whatever they were drawn as. They were drawn with the Demo Default button on. You can do a shift-A in a 3D view and select everything in the model, and change to Existing. (unlock all layers, of course) Will take about 10 secs. Then make sure the default button is set to Existing before you draw anything else. Then pick everything that will be demolished and press the Demo Default Button. Change the default button to New when you start drawing the new construction.

It's possible that the template objects were drawn with the Demo Status on. If you are eyedroppering things, the Status is probably getting picked up, too.
