<T>Hi there. I'm trying to make complete book of project in PDF format via PlotMaker. Everything works fine exept size of JPEG files - they get absurdly heavy. File that originaly weights 700kb gets 4,5 mb when converted into PDF.
Is there a way to control this? How to make them smaller without sacrifing the quality? (I need them at least in 100dpi).

Thanks</T>

Are you publishing to pdf via PM9 Publisher or you print into pdf using "Adobe PDF" or "Adobe PDF Converter"?

PM9 Publisher allows only to choose one pdf quality for both Vector and Raster files, there are on the same layout page. Default pdf quality is 300 dpi (See attached screenshot). You may change the default quality to 72, 150, [300], 600, 1200 dpi for pdf quality if publishing into pdf.
For your case I suppose it will be 150 dpi.

Thanks. I'm using PM9.0 publisher. I tried that one too but funny thing is that it makes difference only for vector drawings. Raster (bitmap>JPEGs) always end up in the same (huge) size, no matter what dpi value is set.

Not a dpi problem, but internal compression. Use a non compressed format, or a format with compression with less loss of quality, like PNG.

I think you'll have to expand on that. <E>😉</E>

How can it be compressed to much when it expands?
-Should we use (less-compressed?) png when placing the pictures in PM, or in Archicad, or or do you mean we should publish to png instead of pdf?

Or is it a PM bug that expands too much compressed jpgs?

Well, I run some tests with same pic in different formats and it looks like this:

-JPEG original size - 721kb, after PDF conversion - 4,231kb !!!
-BMP original size - 5,747kb, after PDF conversion - 3,890kb
-TIFF original size - 5,758kb, after PDF conversion - 3,890kb
-PNG original size - 2,861kb, after PDF conversion - 3,850kb

Is this make sence to you?
If PDF publisher cannot properly handle most common JPEG format than an idea of multiformat book of project is, lets say, too optimistic, don't you think?

My own tests for same image file in differnt formats:

Original File: image.tiff - gray/8 bit, Resolution 72 ppi, Pixel Dimensions: WxH 1024x768 pixel, File Size = 2.20 MB

Converted into jpeg (quality=100%): File Size = 412 Kb
image.tiff file saved as image.psd using photoshop cs2 (layers-on, ICC-on): File Size = 1.45 MB

All imported in PM9 in separate layouts without any further modifications:

Published into pdf with pdf quality 72 dpi.

PDF file size for image.tiff = 319.80 KB
PDF file size for image.jpeg = 349.96 KB
PDF file size for image.psd = 400.69 KB (same with transparency on = 401.07 KB, but opened in Adobe Acrobat Proffesional 7 there

is no transparent background )

PDF file size for image.tiff = 319.90 KB
PDF file size for image.jpeg = 350.07 KB
PDF file size for image.psd = 400.79 KB (same with transparency on: PM9 hangs )
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Published into pdf with pdf quality 300 dpi.

PDF file size for image.tiff = 319.91 KB
PDF file size for image.jpeg = 350.08 KB
PDF file size for image.psd = 400.77 KB (same with transparency on: PM9 hangs )
About PM9 hanging during Publishing process, when transparency for image is on (checked from PM9 image settings dialog). I have discovered that PM9 will hang if the image resolution (PM9 image settings dialog) and pdf publishing quality aren't same PM9 hangs during publishing process (tested for .psd, .tiff formats).

Thanks for respond. This is still unsolved for me. Can somebody please make that simple test for me and compare results:

1. Open any model > 3d window > 1600x1000x75dpi render > save as JPEG, full colour, quality "higher" (you should get file around 500kb)
2. Open PM9.0 > put JPEG on A3 layout > publish >PDF 72 dpi quality> what file size do you get?

My JPEG was 498kb (no compresion made after) and when published in PDF - 3,420 kb. Dpi or Amyuni PDF Converter setting changes doesn't make much difference. Am I missing something?

Tigr, how do you put 1600x1000x75dpi rendered image on A3 format layout page? Maybe A2?

So here is my test with your given parameters (only difference A2 instead A3):

Render Object: Slab 16x10 m
3D: Axo top view
Render: LW 1600x1000x75 dpi
File Format: jpeg, color, quality=best

Test 1: Constant Colors
Material: Paint, red (255;0;0), Constant (jpeg = 70.6 KB - - - > pdf = 1.78 KB)
Material: Paint, green (0;255;0), Constant (73.3 KB - - - > 1.80 KB)
Material: Paint, blue (0;0;255), Constant (65.8 KB - - - > 1.79 KB)

Test 2: Matte colors
Material: Paint, red (255;0;0), Matte (69.1 KB - - - > 1.80 KB)
Material: Paint, green (0;255;0), Matte (72.2 KB - - - > 1.80 KB)
Material: Paint, blue (0;0;255), Matte (65.8 KB - - - > 1.79 KB)

Test 3: Patterns
Material: Solid Polka, ry (255;255;0), Constant (533 KB - - - > 277.35 KB)
Material: Wrapped Checker, b/w, Constant (240 KB - - - > 21.68 KB)
Material: Wrapped Checker, b/w, Matte, Wrapped Dimple (719 KB - - - > 505.83 KB)
Material: Wrapped T Strip, Y(255;230;39);B(0;0;0), Metal, St Layout (2.29 MB - - - > 992.56 KB)

Note: Due to attached files size limit 3 images of test#3 are in pricked sizes and compressed.

Not dpi problem, but also compression isn't that we are searching for. The more colors are present in image, the bigger pdf result will be.
On the final pdf result amount of colors has more effect, than compression method. Especially when there is no way to choose any type of compression in publisher (but "Adobe PDF Converter" has 3 different types of color compression).
At the moment I can't understand why the pdf file size in my tests are smaller than original image file size, but in tigr's test there are bigger
