<T>Do you mean, the master layout items disappear from the layout? (I.e., while you are viewing a conventional layout) If so, I have seen this issue. I found that selecting a different master and switching it back would restore order. I haven't seen dropped master items in output.
Yes, it sounds like it could be a layering problem. In AC10 it's best to consider two separate environments: Modeling and Layouting. Each environment has it's own specific settings. Below is a list I've come up with (so it is by no means official or necessarily complete) on what settings are specific to each environment. To help eliminate any doubt it is followed by a list of what is not specific to each environment. That is to say that each item should be checked separately, sometimes not only for each environment, but for each window within each environment:

Settings Specific to Each Environment:

Absolute/Relative Co-ordinates
Display Order
Floor Plan Scale/Set Drawing Scale
Grid Display & all associated options
Grid Snap & all associated options
Home Zoom
Layer Combinations
Pen Sets
User Origin
Zoom

Settings Not Specific to Each Environment:

3D Window settings of any kind
Auto Intersection
Creative Imaging settings of any kind
Cut/copy/paste
Element Snap
Floor Plan Cut Plane
Full Screen (although this can only be changed while in Modeling Environment)
Full Screen & Hide all Palettes (although this can only be changed while in Modeling Environment)
Ghost Story Display
Guide Lines & all associated options
Grouping
Index Settings
Info
Locking
Magic Wand Settings
Mark-up Entries (although they are specific to each environment).
On-screen View Options
Page Setup
Plot Setup
Project Preferences
Publishing Settings
Schedule Settings
Special Snap Options
Story Settings
Tool Defaults or current/active tool
Work Environment (although it is recommended by GS to have separate WE's for each environment).

I haven't personally experienced this particular bug. Some related problems I have found are:

If we select multiple layouts in the Navigator or Organizer and edit their settings, but only changing their master layouts, the layout names all become the SAME (and we can't undo);

If we have sketch renders on sheets that have no content, they change size and become very large. Until a Fit in Window is done, this can look like the entire page is white.

BTW, you can drag and drop Masters onto layouts now.

Cheers,
That's a doozy. I was just showing someone how to import masters from another file, selected the layouts and assigned the new master, and now all layouts are called "Joinery Fittings". Oops.

Hopefully not after my post (with the 'can't undo' part)!

The safer way is to drag and drop the masters, or change it to View By Masters (but then you'll promptly run into the problem that the layouts are listed alphabetically, not numerically ).
Unfortunately, Link, it was only half an hour or so BEFORE reading your post. Otherwise I <S></S>might<E></E> have got it right. I found it worked ok if I just highlighted all Layouts required, and changed the Master directly in the Navigator master button, rather than going to Settings.

And, ~Ben, I was merging from an empty ex-LBK template which I have created specially for updating masters, all layers stripped out, converted to AC10 PLN. I had tried Copy-paste from PM9 masters but was getting weird results with text size (as mentioned in another thread somewhere, not important here). Works ok from 10-10, but not 9-10.

Now I'm getting other weird happenings in a converted drawing, but that's going to be the topic of a whole new thread.....

the layout space responds to whatever the current layer combo is set to.
if all of your master template items are on the same layer (which i highly suggest) and the current layer combo doesn't have that layer turned on, you won't see your master template info. if you use multiple layers then you would have a situation where there is potential that only some things would be disappearing, blinking occasionally like christmas light in slow motion.

it is precisely because of this that our office uses the archicad layer for all of our master template info. the only thing that could possibly hide the master template info for us is the on screen display option or a bogus pen set.

i agree with archiben DON'T COPY & PASTE FROM THE MASTER! that is just stupid and you may as well use autocad if that's your solution.

While that's a good rule of thumb, it's by no means the ultimate answer IMHO. People tend to forget to use layer combos within the layouting environment too. Combos that can switch out titleblock information, stamps, notes, even entire titleblocks.
link, i think that whilst this may have been true of plotmaker, the combined model/layout layer set in AC10 is no longer conducive to working efficiently with layer combinations in the layout book.

i would recommend sticking to the 'everything on the archicad layer' rule-of-thumb for layouting until graphisoft give layers a much needed overhaul - to make working with two distinct environments more intuitive.
