Are you by chance trying to model in a detail or worksheet window?

These are only 2D which is why you can only use 2D tools.

You should have no problem tracing in the floor plan.

I am having to draw over PDF plans to create copies. I've set the PDF dwg as a trace reference so that I can draw over the top of them using the Archicad wall, door, window, tools. But I can only use some 2D tools such as lines and circles. If I try to trace over a 300 thick wall on the trace reference, with a new 300 thick wall, it doesn't work. That can't be right, surely because it is called a trace tool. What am I doing wrong?

also check the scale of the drawing you are tracing.

Yes that was it. Thank you Barry. I thought that I'd be clever and put the drawing I was tracing into a worksheet.

You can put the drawing in a worksheet.

You then reference the worksheet from the plan view - rather than putting the drawing in the plan view itself.

Or place it in another storey and reference that storey.
