topic Drag + Special Snap Point tool + Radius/Distance tool v16 in Documentation

<T>Trying out v16 today & i noticed that one of the combos tend to use quite a lot doesn't seem to be working properly.

example scenario: i want to drag a 2D line from a random space in the model to be 1000mm away from a wall face in plan. every time i use the combo of Drag + Special Snap tool + Radius/Distance (then type "1000" for the offset from the wall), the line is only 500mm offset from the wall, not the full 1000. & it happens with any dimension -- the Radius/Distance offset is only half of what i actually type.

The special snap points tool is set to "half" distance. this shouldn't matter because this is the same setting in my v14 & i could still end up with proper offsets & not this half-distance issue instead.

appreciate any help.
Thanks!</T>

I would consider what you have in 14 is actually a bug because if you are using the special snap tool set to half then it should drag half the specified distance.
One of the "good" bugs.

Why not just drag the line over the wall (don't let go and make sure the cursor is over the point you want to measure from) and then type X or Y 1000 + or -.
i.e. X1000+ will move it 1000 to the right of the wall.
Y1000- will move it 1000 downwards (below) the wall.

weird, because i remember using the same operation since v11 or v12. nonetheless, shouldn't the halfway snap point operation be overridden by the Radius/Distance measurement?

I'm hoping the bug is with v16 & not the previous versions where the operation string worked perfectly.

Yes it works as you describe in previous versions but that is where the bug is in my opinion.
You are saying drag a certain distance with the special snap tool set to half so I would expect that it would drag half the distance you specify - which is what is does now in 16.
The fact that it didn't do this in previous versions is an opportunistic bug that actually worked in your favour.

If you do the same procedeure in 12 without pressing SHIFT+R (or D)
then you will see it wants to move only half the distance.
i found a way around it.

Setting the number of snap point divisions to more than 2 allows a choice of which point to land the line (or any other element) onto. this gives the opportunity to still continue the combination without it automatically ending the operation & the element finishing at the half-way distance.

was never much into changing the number of snap point divisions.

thanks letting me bounce off ideas into getting back this 'feature'.
