In addition to Barry's advice, you can rotate the dimension string after placement so it is perpendicular to the line. If you have the Control Box visible, use the Relative Construction Methods > Perpendicular.

<T>I'm trying to dimension two points which are perpendicular.

my dimensions aren't coming out right. As the witness lines are not inline with the straight line that I am trying to measure.

I've even tried drawing 2 lines perpendicular to dimensions but it doesn't come out right.

would anyone be able to tell me what I'm doing wrong and how to correctly dimension perpendicular lines?</T>

The easiest way I find is to place a guide segment from the corner of the building perpendicular to the boundary first and then do the dimension.

It is a little easier in 19 as you don't need to place the guide segment.
Activate the guide snap (blue circle) on the corner and another guide snap (blue line) on the boundary and now when you dimension you should get a perpendicular snap guide.

The trick is you have to place the guides before you start to dimension.

You should add your Archicad version and your operating system to your signature in the PROFILE link at the top of this page as the answers to your question can vary depending on this info.
In ArchiCAD Help materials and clips those points and lines marked with the blue thick circle/line are called Snap Reference Points and Snap Reference Lines, respectively, since they are references from which Snap Guides are drawn. The light dashed line offered based on the cursor position is called a Snap Guide.

In Barry's image a Snap Guide is drawn from the Snap Reference Point perpendicular to the Snap Reference Line.
