<R>I need to squeeze the dimension strings in. I'm not editing points or the length of witness lines. I just need to pull the entire string in because it's not fitting on my final sheet, but I cannot figure out how to do this simple task. </R>

Just select the entire dimension line and drag like you would any other element.
If they are associated to your model elements they will stay associated.
If not you can constrain the drag direction with the SHIFT key or by using your guidelines.

If you have a group of dimensions (multiple lines) and you want to adjust the spacing between the lines then unfortunately you will have to move each line individually.
