<T>is there a way where the dimension lines are rubber-band so that i can move them when i edit the walls or objects?

i can move the dimension figures but i can't move the dimensioning lines.

it's quite tiring to delete and add new dimension lines according to the revised locations.

help.
If the dimensions are associative they will adjust automatically. Unfortunately static dimensions don't stretch (last I checked). This is another one for the wish list. Do you want to add it or should I?

Yes. When first click on a dimension node the element i is associated with will be highlighted.

2) Is there a way to change which point/object a dimension is associated with?

Not really. You would have to turn off other elements by layers, delete the nodes you want to change, and command/control click to reinsert them.

On the other hand you can select the element to dimension to when first creating the string. Repeated clicking on the same spot (while dimensioning) will cycle through the available elements at that point.

A simpler approach that I use is to set up a layer combination specifically for dimensioning. Since I dimension almost exclusively to walls this combination has just the wall layers and the annotation layer turned on. It makes creating and editing dimensions a real snap.

Not necassarily. Selecting a dimension string and CTRL clicking on new reference points will re-connect the dimension line to the new points.

As for moving the dimension line or string, just select it by CLICKING ON THE DIMENSION LINE WITH THE MERCEDES CURSOR and drag. There are a few hotspots, one at each node, one in the middle of each dimension line, one for the dimension text, and if you want to work with the whole dimension chain (linear or level in S/E) you HAVE TO select it with Mercedes cursor.

You also know that by selecting a dimension line and CTRL clicking on antoher you will join them?

All of this should be done with the dimension tool active.

I also dimension mostly to walls using the Mercedes cursor, and slabs, so there is not much doubt for me. Dimensioning to lines and other stuff is IMHO an invitation to dissaster. While dimensioning, keep an eye on the Info box - it shows the element being clicked.

Yes, your layer combo for dimensioning is an excellent idea, and the only way IMHO of controlling what is the dimension linked to. Our two methods combined would give the result needed, methinks? <E>😉</E>
please go ahead and add that 'associative' dimensioning into the wish list.

i see there is a 'static dimension' check box but i can see any different whether it is checked or unchecked. What does it do when is checked/unchecked?
Associative dimensions can't exist without associated building points, while static dimensions stay the same once set since they aren't associated to anything.

You use the staic dimension to cheat if things don't exactly work out with the model.

This can all be avoided from the start though right? When we dimension to an element, that element becomes selected. If we don't want that element, just keep clicking on the same spot and it will cycle through all available elements, highlighting each one. When we have the desired one, just click OK or continue onto the next element.

Don't mean to state the obvious, but just wanted to make it clear.

Cheers,
