topic Warning! Cannot write output (DWG) file. in Documentation

<R>What use is ArchiCAD when you can't make a DWG?

Like it or not, PLN is not the industry standard, DWG is. We have to live with that. Once we have our translators set up, ArchiCAD and Plotmaker supposely do a decent job of getting <S></S>flat<E></E> simple DWG files out. But occasionally I'll get a mysterious error when I try to publish or save a DWG from ArchiCAD: Warning! Cannot write output file. What the #&$* does that mean?! WHY GRAPHISOFT! WHY!!! Your mysterious message will cost me hours of sleep. Thanks a lot. I appreciate that.
Why can't Graphisoft give us a clue about what causes these errors??? Why do they display error messages that just tell us there is a problem but don't tell us how to fix it? We are in an industry where time is extremely critical. We can't waste hours trying to fix some mysterious error. We need to know what is causing the problem NOW. We can't afford the time to track down the culprit library part or API. I've had to send a file to Graphisoft before to have THEM fix the file. That's nice customer service. I appreciate that, but with the time difference it took two days before I could continue to work on the file. Now I just can't invest that kind of time.

I have GOT to get these backgrounds out to one of our consultants today and no matter what I do I just can NOT get ArchiCAD to publish or save a DWG. I've tried everything I can think of to get it to work.

Has this happened to any of you gurus? What do you do when you can't get your DWGs to your Engineers? How can I fix this problem?</R>

Alex, you're feeling yourself again! Welcome back!

(I agree with the sentiment, though.)
Alex,

You are not alone. Every so often we will get a .PLN or .PLP file that doesn't like our export configuration. Most of the time we are able to save out a "vanilla" .DWG (or .DXF for the real problematic ones) in an older AutoCAD version format.

...We (Kirksey) also feel your pain.
