Drop-Rename equivalent for OS X, any idea?

There is this cool little Drop•Rename application for OS 9 which lets you drag a folder into it and change all folder+subfolder+file names by doing find&replace, adding a string at the beginning or at the end, etc.

My whole folder/template system depended on it: I had this 'template' folder structure where all folders and templates started with NNNN, so at the start of a new project I would create a duplicate and replace NNNN for the project number. So that each folder and template and layout and library and etc. then started with the project number, which I like a lot better than having NumberOfProjects folders named 'Modules', etc.

The last Drop-Rename seems to be the 2001 edition (www.chaoticsoftware.com/ProductPages/DropRename.htm). I have been searching for an equivalent for OS X but I could not find anything for batch renaming.

What would be the method for doing the same on OS X?

goto the apple script application folder and double click "install menu items". This will put a pull down menu in your menu bar ( see attached file)- select the folder you wish to change then the new menu item and select 'finder scripts>>replace text in item names". Voila!!
A tip:

these particular scripts reside in an alias in the Apple script folder. Slide your favourite script to the top level and its new location will also be reflected in the menu bar pull down

Ahahah! So that is why ChaoticSoftware are not updating Drop•Rename (their interface was prettier though). Wonderful. Thank you very much.

We've been using a utility called "Better Finder Rename" Works great and has a better interface than the Apple Scripts. Go to http://www.publicspace.net/ABetterFinderRename/.

That is even more beautiful than Drop•Rename. I like the contextual menu option a lot. Thank you very much.
