ahh, the automatic dimensioning tool. Works OK, until it doesnt, specially when you need to move/edit/delete a single element; then entire strings dissapear. So while nice, i find it quite unreliable as you need to constantly check on it which is the source of my frustration. And what about sections, elevations, interior elevations, details and 3d views or level tool? how about cabinet or curtain wall plans, or even land platforms plans?or buldings that are not completely orthogonal?

My proposal is a semi automatic approach . A tool similar to the section tool, but for dimensions and levels. You still need to drop it in place where you need it, and specify what you want it to dimension, along with other dimensioning standards, and is also view dependent (all of which you can save into favorites). Works in plan, sections and elevations of any kind, even in 3d views and works with any 3d object or combination of them, so you can use it even for railing plans and curtain wall elevations or lighning fixture plans, and of course, works on any angle and can be related to your project gridlines.

Also, contrary to what happens now, you can copy it among any views (like, repeat this setting in all the levels, for guys working on high-rise, or copy it in your sections for people that like to generate many sections). It can even be related to your layer combination or clasifications so you can dimension only one specific object in a given view. Once you set it on each view, it reads the objects in the model and dimensions it accordingly, so you can edit and delete elements with gusto and it will still give you reliable dimension strings, contrary to what happens today. If you need some ad-hoc dimensions you can add them and it gives you graphical feedback on which dimensions are user-added. You can even apply tolerances if for some reason your model is not a perfect work of modelling art!

@DGSketcher so yeah, we would still be quite involved in the documentation process (selecting the dimensioning criteria and placing the dimension tool) , but then let the software actually do some of the maintenance work, if not all. It would be like combining the section tool funtionality and stability (including the distance view on plan so you can exclude objects you dont want to dimension) with the automatic dimensioning tool criteria plus adding the ability to exclude or include any element (like the Find tool), depending on which type of plan you are working on. Depending on the type of project, Im betting something like this could cover over anywhere from 90% to 95% of our dimensioning needs if not more. The rest is solved through ad-hoc dimensions.

Combine the user expertise with the computer processing power and let that pretentious AI have some.

I understand that it should be considered WIP but should that really have to be the case after talking about it for one and a half year? Why does all things implemented by GS seem to be underdeveloped and in need of more work from the get go? Why does development focus continue to feel superficial and marketing driven?

It is certainly a step in the right direction to provide a roadmap but the way it is done does not instil much confidence in the future development of AC.

Finally, some genuine response from GS.

I like the layout, especially coming soon sector. I think you should implement voting system, especially on the idea pool so developers can prioritize demands of the users.

I do feel like Archicad is no more ARCHIcad as in architecture, and architecture seems like is not a priority for development even tho mostly architects use archicad. I understand the need for MEP and structural development, but shouldn't your focus mostly be on making it easier for architects and the main client group by solving SO MANY issue/requests/wishes we see daily on this forum?

To exemplify with some very basic UI things that I really can't see why they aren't implemented:

The roadmap is stated to be for four products but looking at it it's not obvious which item belongs to which product. There should be a tag for each product.

The card-view is really hard to overview and means a lot of scrolling. There should be a more condensed view mode.

Search is limited to one development stage. There should be a centralised search with ability to filter for stage.

A good start but...

Can you separate out BIMx in the headings? Why? Because the BIMx Devs seem to be making excellent progress with many changes and BIMx is in many ways a separate branch of Archicad like MEP.

I would also say the same for BIMcloud, which many of us don't use so those feature are of limited interest when reading the Roadmap

Can't say there's much reassurance under the "In Progress" heading which I assume is geared towards AC28/29. It also feels like architecture is going to be playing second fiddle to DDS/Services for the next couple of years despite the steady demand on this forum for fundamental usability and architectural workflow improvements.

Under Research includes some interesting pointers. Is Keynotes really only at research stage? How does AI-assisted Design take a sense of precedence over many of the elements in the ideas pool?

Dark Mode is still in the Ideas Pool... What! Really. After four years is AC27 still going to continue its delivery of unreadable dialog boxes and generally messy interface on macOS?

Please tell me that after nearly twenty years of asking for Instancing (aka in-place hotlink editing), is it still just an idea? All the development that AC has delivered over the years including the integration of Structural elements and this fundamental function of CAD is still just an idea at Graphisoft?

In the Public Roadmap when using the filtering tags, I see there are more roadmap features for MEP and Structural than there are for Architecture.

If the fee for "Architects" is $975/year for SSA, shouldn't the focus be on developing more tools and features for architects? Why is the focus now outside of our discipline with MEP and Structural?

We need architectural features to drive development. This is ARCHI-CAD. Can someone please explain why the migration to engineering features is dominating the Roadmap?

I notice in the Under Research and Idea Pool, many features that have LONG been in ArchiCAD are being considered to be implemented into BIMcloud as opposed to ArchiCAD. Does this mean you will be removing features like Publishing, Hotlinking, Exporting of DWGs and PDFs to BIMcloud, and unless we subscribe to BIMcloud, we will be out of luck?

Congratulations team. It is great to see this first step taken.

I am that happy about it, I have already recorded my thoughts about it.

@DGSketcher wrote:

Please tell me that after nearly twenty years of asking for Instancing (aka in-place hotlink editing), is it still just an idea? All the development that AC has delivered over the years including the integration of Structural elements and this fundamental function of CAD is still just an idea at Graphisoft?

GS's reluctance to adress this is beyond belief. Having a proper generalised multiple instantiable group entity should be a baseline for a modern CAD/BIM application - or as they now like to say "industry standard".

Hi all,

I must admit I have mixed feelings about the roadmap.

Don't you guys have some kind of focus group before this kind of announcement?

Since V24, ArchiCAD improvements are mostly based on tools that are not related to architecture. Don't get me wrong, they are needed, but the ratio of development is off. Should be 70/30% in favor of architecture and the rest of 30% other.

It is a good start, but most idea pool MUST be under the coming soon/ In progress tab.

Hope that roadmap is not closed and is open for change.
A voting system is a must so that YOU as a company knows where to put resources, and we as USERS get the tool that we need.

Cheers,

Stefan Veselinović

Thanks Graphisoft for taking a step in the right direction! My first impression is that there are too many Structural and MEP features in the pipeline. I am excited about the prospect of a new GDL editor and RVT geometry exchange. As mentioned by others, it would be great to see a voting system integrated into the road map to assist Graphisoft in prioritising planned features.

Cheers!

I would hate to see the votes and comments divided between two threads for such an important wish, if/when we get to that stage.
