Just start using the software!!! You'll probably make mistakes, but then you return to this forum and find a bunch of helping hands.

If you have not already, open up the template pln files that came with ArchiCad and "look around".

I would say that the best way to learn it is to start a project. Only by using it will you start to "learn" the software. It doesn't have to be a real project, but take it as far as you can, and try to incorporate as many of the things you'll have to deal with in your future projects as possible.

Or else hire somebody to come into your office and teach you. Might cost a little more, but I hear it's worth it (I learned it by doing, not by hiring - maybe it shows)... Just ask around if you want somebody to teach you one-on-one. Some of the guys around here do that.

Let me emphatically recommend the Archicad 8 Training Guide by Lubomir Kulisev (available from parch.com and I think also Objects Online). The book is structured around a house project you work on as you learn the tools, and as each tool is introduced you get all the tips and tricks and exercises to really own the technique.

I hear that for 9 Graphisoft be using the 'Archicad Training Guide' name for a sort of 'Step by Step' thing, not by Kulisev, which then I would emphatically not recommend. So I don't know if there will be a True Training Guide for 9. In any case, the old one is well worth the investment and time even with the 8-to-9 differences, while Step by Step is just not worth the investment and time.

I think you need to jump into a project of your own as well. I went to college and learned it there. But it wasnt until I actually did a project on my own that I learned anything useful. So jump in and when you need help come back here.
