Hi, all.

I am sorry for the long delay with the macro, but I have done it finally. It is a macro, which modifies parameters of library parts according to an Excel spreadsheet. The tool can help you enrich your interactive schedules with a lot of information, prepared in a user friendly Excel environment.
You can download the distribution package here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/199026462/SelfModificationMacroDistr_V1_01.zip - the link has been updated, it shouldn't have download limitations, as the file reshared from a Premium Account.

The most recent version of the macro is 1.02. You can download it here: http://rapidshare.com/files/206918959/SelfModification_1_02.zip
Also you can download premodified version of the ArchiCAD 12 US standard library here: http://rapidshare.com/files/206917365/Object_Library_12_SM_US.zip

The package contains The User's guide (PDF), the macro itself (for ArchiCAD 12 Win), and additional files for the macro. This version has been tested with ArchiCAD 12 R2420 INT FULL and Microsoft Excel 2003.

I am afraid that some things can be not clear. Please contact me in case of any questions/comments.

In the next post you can read a description of the macro.

With the increased need for using XML in various contexts, can anyone recommend exceptional XML editors for both Mac and Windows.

Only newer versions of Microsoft Office do this and I would prefer not to upgrade.
I have a little need in XML editing, so I usually use simple text editor, without checking result for consistency.
But you can try these freeware crossplatform products:

I got to know the US standard library structure is very different from the international one (thank you, Erika). I can't spend time on modification of the manual now, so I publish a premodified version of the ArchiCAD 12 US (2325) standard library: http://rapidshare.com/files/206917365/Object_Library_12_SM_US.zip. If you use ArchiCAD 12 US, you can skip pages 4-15 of the manual (Modification of ArchiCAD 12 Standard Library) and use the premodified library for replacing your standard library file "Object Library 12.lcf", as described on page 16 (steps 1.14.4-1.14.5).

In addition to that, I have found an error in Microsoft Excel 2003 SP1-SP3. It sometimes slightly modifies numeric values, when it saves into XML table format. For example, 0.123 can be saved as 0.123000000001. So, I modified the macro for bypassing the error. The modified version: http://rapidshare.com/files/206918959/SelfModification_1_02.zip.

And the final remark. You need to set metric linear dimentions and 4 digits precision before you save data into XLS file (page 20, step 1.8.1). Open Project preferences->Dimensions, set "Linear Dimensions Unit" to meter with 4 decimals, save a dimensions standard (press "Add" button). After that set this dimensions standard in the View Settings dialog in Project Navigator for your schedule before export the schedule into XLS.

You're posting to a 4 year old thread. Sadly, Leo has not participated here since March 2009, so it is unlikely that any updates will be posted here.
