AC 17 to autocad problem

Rick Thompson

I have a client who I sent a file to using the default translator, as always. I have sent dwg and dxf. He is on autocad2006 For some reason he is getting "file currently in use or read only". After that when he opening he gets a blank sheet with no placed drawings.

Anyone have any suggestions? thanks

Tell him to download Draftsight and use it to check the file.

It might be a bad download or a bad "unzip" also.

He might have something installed that creates Previews of files and that one is making the problem? Usually Autocad is somewhat picky about that.

I appreciate your help... but now it has happened again. The first person never was able to get things to work, but he admitted he was not a real experienced user. I have sent out a couple of DXF conversions and did not here of any issues, but having this happen again is troubling not to be able to offer any suggestions. There must be some autocad setting they are missing???

So if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it. Seems to be a referencing problem in both cases.

thanks..... I'll post the last comment I got>>

"I am having a great deal of difficultly opening the files in AutoCADD 2010. Are you able to save and send as DWG files? Or have any suggestions for me as the files aren't referencing each other?"

If you exported the files from AC and checked them in Draftsight then the problem might not be on your side but in theirs. If you want send me the DWG by PM and I'll check it.

Rick,

Check your client is extracting the DWG file properly from the zip into a normal folder somewhere. AutoCAD will come up with that 'read only' error message when opening directly from a zip or from within an email, although it should still open the file OK.

As he is on an old version of AutoCAD, check the translator in ArchiCAD is set to save DWGs in 2004 format. If AutoCAD encounters a newer format of DWG it sometimes throws up a another error message and then just opens up a completely blank sheet like you describe.

(Also check the file isn't zoomed into an area of whitespace - your client may simply need to zoom to extents after opening to see the drawing! )

Hope that helps!
