ACAD LT dwgs won't open, heeeelp

I received AutoCAD LT dwg files, but they won’t open. No conversion dialogs, no questions, error messages, nothing, only blanc empty window resulting. LT files are in 2000 format, we tried also R14, the same.
I tried AC 7.0, 8.1 and PM, open... and merge..., no success.
This has happened several times before and I remember seeing similar questions on this list, but I can’t find them. I have very poor knowledge of AutoCAD and Windows, so what’s going on?

Your signature says "8.1" ... I can't recall if 8.1 could read 2004 format.
Just to verify, this information is correct, 8.1 will not read 2004 drawings.

Good news!
When I saw this reborn thread of mine, I made a test. I still have those problematic DWGs. Again no luck with AC8.1, but 9 opens them fluently.

Report tells of several “Intersecting polygon, or the hole is not...blablaa”, but it is probably not the reason in 8.1, because I have had those in almost every DWG file. One file gives also an error “Not enough edges in geneatrix” whatever it means.
