Yes, Djorde, you are correct. It's "IF" at this point, but I should know more in the next month or so....I was curious how it worked.

Is IFC a file format? Would my file be something like "window.IFC"

Here is a link to a small PDF that gives a description of the International Alliance for Interoperability (IAI) and Industry Foundation Classes (IFC).

hmmm...thanks for the link. It seems that the file format is XML, and that gbXML is already a form of an IFC document. In the future, it seems we mave have an aecXML format for the arch's and eng's.

Still a bit confusing. I still equate this to needing some kind of file "type" that all IFC compliant programs can read and write....basically the DWG of the new millineum.

If you export an ArchiCAD object as an IFC compliant file format, what do you get?

Good question -- anyone? anyone?

Also, any update on "if" or "when" Revit may be IFC enabled?

UPDATE: Revit Building 8 now has an IFC export feature, however, "It is important to note that this IFC certification for Revit has been achieved for the code-checking view only, and does not guarantee that an IFC exported file from Revit will work with all applications that use the IFC format." per Lachmi Khemlani's review www.aecbytes.com/review/RevitBuilding8.htm

I found this thread after a google search and just wanted to say for the record that this is now possible with the RFA & RVT Geometry Exchange Add-on for ARCHICAD 21by BIM6x.
