Does ArchiCAD collaborate with Autodesk Robot ?

hi all,

i have students that are asking for a BIM solution that integrate (or can exchange models) with Autodesk Robot ( a software for structural civil engineers )

so i'd like to know whether it's applicable for ArchiCAD to export the model using IFC or other file format to this application

I think it's a bigger question of what Autodesk Robot can handle.

From the ArchiCAD side, these two posts I recently wrote for BIM Engine should help answer the interoperability questions form ArchiCAD's side.

What is the nature of the models you are preparing?

I've been developing translators for various structural analysis software to import IFC files (SAP2000, Oasys GSA and it can be enabled for Robot Structural Analysis). However these don't yet have lots of intelligence for "interpreting" connectivity or analytic alignment (it's one area revit has advanced quite a lot on).

If you'd like to know more or have some samples you'd like tested (or advice for), get in touch.

Did you manage to import in SAP2000?

If you can share a representative sample of your model (you can contact me to email or dropbox etc) I can advise on how much of the model can be imported.

Hi,
I use Archicad and Robot.
I didn't download the addon for a better connection to revit product yet.
My experience is "so ans so".
I modeled int Archicad some reinforced concrete structures and exported towards robot via IFC. The result is not reasy to be used in robot, and what you get in robot needs to be adjusted. In fact, for example, slabs are translated as panels in robot laying at th level of their center ( a 30cm thick slab will lay 15cm lower than its top surface ... And so on). The same for pillars and beams. They are translated as linear member in their axis. So all the connections should be checked and modeled again. Equally for the walls. Junctions of the walls a to be checked. Obviously no loads, no constraints, no combinations of loads .... Nothing.
But an experienced robot user can adjust and tune the model coming from Archicad very quickly (robot is fantastic).
Sure we Archicad+Robot users need some (specific?) tool to go and come back from the two software a smoothly ....
I didn't study the problem very deep, but I want to do. If I have some news, I will share.
