Exporting 3D into 3D Studio Max

Anonymous

Hello all; with a 3D rendering done in AC there is a setting to do a "save a" into a 3ds file. When it is imported in 3DS, all library parts some in with very limited ability to modify materials. For example a window, imports with only one material, not frame & glass. Do I have something wrong in the settings?
Any response is very appreciated.
Thanks,
Reuben

This has often been posted in these forums.

In short, I usually opt for:
Construct 3D Studio objects according to: Materials
Set drawing unit to: 1000 mm
Write out ArchiCAD texture information
Object = group name (7 characters)

Then, as a second step, you can use the plugin-script from Marc Lorenz:
http://plugins.angstraum.at/archicad_wiz/index.htm to improve the import process from ArchiCAD into 3ds max or VIZ.

It optionally removes the FOG and SUN from the 3ds file and can define a mapping between the read ArchiCAD materials and internal 3ds max materials. You can save this to repeat the process later on.

But more importantly, it merges all vertices (make sure your scene is on the right scale), to avoid annoying artifacts in the 3ds max renderings, especially when using the default scanline rendering engine.

Works fine 😉
