Help creating alternate address for remote access

Hi all.

I'm pretty illiterate when it comes to network stuff. I need to configure my BIMCloud server so that an interior designer can join one of my projects from their office.

For offsite access, the manual instructs that I should use https://bimcloud.(companyname).com:socket.

Does this assume that I have performed some other preparations elsewhere? My company domain name just points to a Squarespace website. I don't have a fixed public IP but my workstation (hosting the BIMcloud Server) has a fixed IP within my home network.

Thanks very much for any help you can offer.

Hi Eric,

First of all, the alternate address you put into your list has a typo: bimclould. If you have the bimcloud.EDAProjects.com, then possibly it won't work with this. : )

But based on your comment, I suspect you don't own such Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) (see also: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fully_qualified_domain_name). Without a FQDN or a fix public IP your consultant won't be able to access your BIMcloud. The primary address, which is probably your computer's own IP. It is available through your own wifi, but it is likely that this is not public as well.

It might worth to rent a FQDN or a fix IP from your internet provider.

Kind regards,

Thanks, Noémi. I'll call my ISP. (And check my spelling!)
