Import AC Model from others-Best Method

Dave Jochum

A laser measuring company I occasionally use now has the capability of providing a complete .pln file to me. I'm struggling to figure out the best method of bringing that file into my own AC template. I want to minimize pollution of my layers, MVO, GO, Renovation filter, pen sets, etc. They don't use composites, so that complication doesn't exist. Ideas?

I should have mentioned, this is to be the principal model in the file that will be remodeled and added to--not simply a context building for which I would hotlink a module.

I’m not sure there is a quick way. I can think of 2 ways:

  1. Spend the time changing their attributes to yours using Attribute Manager
  2. drastic action - move everything to one layer and one material and reallocate using find and select. You will get a lot of attribute issues to resolve but it might be quicker if the file is complex

Give them your Template file, make them import the Point Cloud file into a PLN based on that Template, and give them exact instructions about how to model things, including layers, attributes, etc. Also, tell them that they can not create any new attributes, they have to use whatever is available in your Template.

This is what I usually do when I do modeling based on Point Clouds for a company I do such work.

This may not be a solution for your current project, but could be a good workflow on future projects.

Excellent help, Laszlow. I will do this and I know they will be amenable.

Thanks, Tim. Your suggestions are all I could think of myself. I think it's crucial to be proactive with the company as Laszlo suggests.
