Opening DWG from AutoCad 2009

I have ArchiCad 10
When I try to open a DWG file from version 2009 I get a File Open Error "The file you are trying to open is damaged. Do you want ArchiCAD to try recovering it?" When I click "Recover it" nothing comes up.

Since I can open other versions of AutoCAD, I have a feeling the problem is in AC10 not being able to handle AutoCAD v2009. Is there a fix?

Thanks,
Michael

I am not positive but since AC 10 came out quite a long time before 2009 I suspect you will not be able to open it. You will have to save the ACAD file back to version 2007 or so and then it should open fine.

Cheers

That was the problem. V2007 opens OK.
Thanks Gerald

There has also been several mentions of free DWG converters. You can search for them on the forum, or here is one post about it from Djordje:

If you don't have access to the person who sent you the AutoCAD 2009 file, then you can use that DWG converter to create a earlier version file.
