.PLN BACKUP

Anonymous
Not applicable
Hi, I'm trying Archicad 16 and I noticed that when I share a project on BIM server, the SEND & RECEIVE button has a little SAVE button icon….when I clicked it it told me this…

"The BIM server has requested a PLN backup for this project"

and after sending and receiving changes y creates this .pln backup. Does anyone know where this .pln is stored? I just can't find it.

thx!

It is generated by ArchiCAD, then uploaded to the BIM Server.
If you go to the BIM Server Manager, in the Project Settings Dialog of your Project you will see these PLN Backup files among the backups. You can even download them to your computer if you want.

I'm trying to get a clear idea of why you'd use a PLN backup.

Graphisoft support advised us a couple of years back that we only use BIM Project backups, and that PLN backups were not necessary.
No-one asked the question at the time, so I'm asking now.

What are the advantages & disadvantages? (my question is to daily practitioners as well as to GS)

The most obvious advantage that comes to my mind is that you don't need the BIM Server for a PLN file. You can just open it immediately and do whatever with it.
The BIM Server Backup: you have to use the Rollback command in the BIm Server to use that, takes more time, more chance for something to go wrong, I guess.

But with PLN backup you have to make sure you have the libraries it was used with. That is not an issue with a BIM Server Backup because they are on the BIM Server.
