Pen sets

How many pen sets do you use?

I can't see good reason to have it more than 2.
1. Colored pen set for model and views
2. Black and gray for output, sometimes I add colored pen
for section line marker and grid system in output...

I would certainly add a grey scale pen set(s) for mechanical, electrical, etc. drawings.

What about having different pen sets for external 2d CAD drawings? Our surveyor uses a completely different range of pens to us, so in order to use his drawings without having to manually explode and edit each line, we have a unique pen set that displays his drawing correctly before it is placed on a layout. We also use this for Ordnance Survey-based location plans which again are 2d CAD drawings with different pens.

This is also useful for integrating manufacturers 2d details if you don't need to edit them.

We use lots of pen sets - e.g:

- Model views (color)
- Output (1:500,1:100,1:20,1:5 etc)
- types of drawings (e.g Concrete Profiles turn the slab outline pen fat)

If you start assigning pens for certain functions and not just limiting yourself to the old 'Rapidograph' way of drawing then you can really tweak the appearance of certain element types for certain drawings via the Pen Sets

Pen Sets are awesome. I use 6. Here's a few reasons why and some of the differences between the pen sets I use:

I really would not tell a fix number for it. It depends on the type and kind of Graphic information you need to get the job done.

On top of it, there are at least two completely different approaches when it comes to AC Versions: The International version uses the most typical ( almost generic) and the US Version uses it's own.

I find the Int more flexible and complete, and the US compact and a bit "fragile"

In short I would use one PS depending on Scale, Type of Drawing (Discipline: RCP General, Finishes, etc...)

All of this I compress it in something I like to call: Model View Style.
