why no ODBC or SQL on Mac

Aussie John

Just wondering why Mac is out in cold regarding access to SQL or ODBC. Filemaker is ODBC savvy.
Cheers John

Tom,
Fair enough...Let me apologize in advance as I'm am not really "database" literate. So what do we need? Does Graphisoft need to write an ODBC driver or something? If that's the case, it's curious why they haven't done so yet...any ideas???

Even though I'm not really database literate, I understand outstanding potential for this connectivity! I just want to get the ball rolling so I can figure out how to take advantge of it.

Yes, probably to tie in with FileMaker, since that's the reigning Apple Database system.

I've never heard an official answer, but my guess would be lack of available programming resources for something that would not generate noticeable revenue.

Tom,
Seems like a good item for the wishlist so I've posted it...

Good thought, Stefan. But it isn't the ODBC machinery that is missing on the MAC (it is there). It is that Graphisoft has not provided the ODBC driver for PLN/PLA files as they have for Windows. This driver is in some sense a special subset of ArchiCAD itself, providing the ability to read and extract info from PLN and PLA files. As the 'guts' are proprietary code (part of AC itself) to Graphisoft, there is not anything that an open source solution can do to help ... the ball is in Graphisoft's court. 😉

It's clear that I'm a database-newbie...

However, I'm catching up now through some old-school book-reading.
