ArchitTerra3 > Road Modeling

I loaded AT3 successfully and created a land mesh at an airport; the runway is apprx 8,000 feet long, the terrain levels range from 12 to around 60 feet elevation over the length of the runway.

I am using ArchiTerraa3 > I have used an AC10 fill to define the runway with around 16 nodes along each edge of the length of the runway. After selecting the terrain mesh and the runway outline and then selecting the road tool >> everything seems to go well until I click the "OK" button of the road tool. >> I then get an 'empty pencil' cursor on the screen and the ArchiTerra menu goes to a ghost display and the runway "road" is not modeled.

Same thing happens on other attempts at road modeling elsewhere on the site.

Have tried it a few times and get same result each time. Have also shut down AC10 and restarted; and again same result?

Any suggestions?

I am still using AC9 mostly and am still on ArchiTerra 2.06, sorry if this is only a 'shot-in-the-dark".

When creating Roads using AT 2.06, I create a group set of lines representing the Center of traveled way. Select the mesh and then the lines and click the road tool. Set proporties Click OK.

I Select the ArchTerra Road object and Click on the "Road Longitudinal Profile Tool" Click somewhere in the created section window set preferences. Form here I modify the road profile. Back in plan view select ArchTerra Road object & Mesh again, then the "Road Tool" and now click the "Excavate" button.

If you are creating a Road or Runway that is already consistent with the mesh contours, there are other options.

There is a SEO Tip & Trick that may be of help here

I like to create ArchiTerra Roads (Driveways) because I can have a linked longitudinal Cross-section.

thanks for the quick reply > yes, i could use the polyline method for creating the runway since it is a straight line with a constant width. i was using the Fill method because i also have a number of larger, non-linear aircraft parking and maneuvering areas; so i was testing the Fill method on the runway.

i have tried the same methods, following the AT3 manual instructions very closely and i simply cannot get a "road" using the Fill method. even using the polyline road center method with AT3, i do get a apparently properly constructed road, but when it is geenerating, it goes through two or three warnings that pop up stating that "Errors occurred during the last operation!!"

note too that the AT# manual for the road tool states that the road creation tool methods are totally different from previous versions. it also notes that "the nodes of the polyline or the fill are extremely important as they define the altitude of the element." >> but it doesn't explain how or why those nodes are so darn important. that may be the key.
