Door display issue in Revit of IFC files exported from Archicad

There is a common issue about Archicad-Revit interoperability regarding Door swings as they aren't displayed correctly in Revit most of the time.

We have already had several discussions about this topic and we have found some useful workarounds that can be shared. Hopefully, this article would help the Clients struggling with this issue as it summarizes the recommended IFC translator presets.

In summary, considering the 3 most relevant options for this particular issue, the best practices are:

  • To LINK in Revit an IFC from Archicad with BREP geometry:

Door / Window 2D Views (Model Filter)

YES - Ticked

IfcOpeningElement (Model Filter)

NO - Unticked

Export Gross Geometry (Geometry Conversion)

NO - Unticked

  • To LINK in Revit an IFC from Archicad with EXTRUDED geometry:

It doesn't make any sense to do this. But the best option here would be the same as the previous one.

  • To OPEN in Revit an IFC from Archicad with BREP geometry:

Although this is not a common scenario, it might happen. The solution has limitations, but the "least bad" would also be the same as the previous ones.

  • To OPEN in Revit an IFC from Archicad with EXTRUDED geometry:

Door / Window 2D Views (Model Filter)

YES - Ticked

IfcOpeningElement (Model Filter)

YES - Ticked

Export Gross Geometry (Geometry Conversion)

YES - Ticked

When linking is there a way to get rid of IfcOpeningElement? It's equally disturbing for the Revit person to hide that category as it is for us to hide the layer when we import IFC from revit/tekla etc.
