Changing only material finish & renovation filters.

Hi,

Im brand new to archicad and have been modelling up a survey of an existing house which is going to have a small extension and general cosmetic overhaul of the rest of the house.

One thing we are struggling with in the office is being able to change for example a wall finish from render to timber cladding or windows from white to Anthracite on the model while keeping the old material in the "existing" filter.

Is there a way of doing this? it seems counter productive to have to set all windows to "demolished" and replace them with exactly the same windows in a new colour for the New status.

Thanks very much for your suggestions.

You could probably do this with graphic overrides. Haven't used them much, but you should be able to set it so that while active, material x on object type y is shown as material a. In you example rule would be something like;

"If surface equals render and object classification equals wall then surface equals timber".

*Not that graphic overrides look like that, but that is essentially what the settings say...
