Eave attached to side edge of sloping roofs

Daniel_He

Hi, I created eave for a side edge of sloping roofs as showed in 1st picture, the problem showed in red circle, so I made a section to change angle of eave up to 15° as same as roof pitch as showed in 2nd picture. Then the eave and roof edge was aligned, however new issue appeared as showed in red circle mark in 3rd picture, how shall I do to solve it

It is all about the transitions.

The same shape profile can not mitre at a corner if they are different pitches.

You need to transition flat around the corner and then transition from flat to rake.

I think this post will help explain.

Unfortunately most of the images are attachments as they translated this way from the old forum.

Actually that is not the post I was thinking of.

There is another I was involved in that I am thinking of.

I will have a proper look tomorrow - it’s a bit late now.

As any craftsman/carpenter/tinsmith can tell you - that is never going to work perfectly in the model, or in a real-world application.  It's like trying to merge a round tube with a square tube.  It will require some elements in the transition that are not something anyone wants to build/modify for the situation shown.

This is the post I was thinking of.

It is using the railing tool to wrap a profile around the roof edges.

But you can see in the second image  (this one)

BarryKelly_0-1634779772661.png

that the horizontal profile has to wrap horizontally around the corner (to for the 45° corner mitre) and then that small return then mitres with the profile raking up the roof.

So basically there is a 2 stage mitre rather than a single one where you are trying to transition around the corner and up the slope at the same time.

That is the one - thanks Ling.

I have just edited it to show the attached image files as actual images in the posts.

Strange how some images from old forum show as images and others are converted to attachments.

We are trying to work on a solution for that.

The old forum showed image previews for attachments at the end of the post which this one does not. So any old posts that have images visible are due to them being place inline, while the majority were just relying on the the preview?

It might be something to do with if they were inserted in-line or not.

The images in my posts there were definitely in-line as there was gaps in the text for them.

Anyway, that one is sorted now.
