That should work.
Is it possible that the object is in AC12 version format?

This is almost normal, because gsm objects on archibase are often translated from 3ds files, without material definition.
And thy are very very heavy.

rocorona: how can I add textur? (I have a downloaded folder with .tga files. I think they are the textures) Or where can I download (free) objects with material definition.

You will need to open up the library part to see exactly how (and if) the materials are defined.

This thread may help - http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=24240

Also there are lots of objects in the object depository here - http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/object_depository.php?
