No space in beginning of layer names?

Can anyone else confirm if in 26 that we are unable to begin (or add to an existing layer) name with a space character (for sorting purposes)? If so, why... would they remove that function?

I've noticed that too.  It happens for other attribute types too.

You can however add a space if you rename it from the old attribute manager.  Long live the old attribute manager!

Might be because of the new search feature?

Maybe just add an underscore instead of a space.

I have always been told this is good practise (more so with file names but I guess it would apply to attributes as well).

It is hard to see a space at the beginning of a name.

I've always used a space because simply because it looks cleaner. I can switch to an underscore, but it's just frustrating they take away useful features like this.

I checked this with a Linetype attribute in Ac26 INT build 4019 and I found the following:

- In the Attribute Manager, it is possible to modify an attribute name so it starts with a <SPACE> character. The changes take effect when leaving the Dialog by pressing the OK button.

- In the Attributes Palette, it is not possible to make this modification using the Rename command, it is simply not executed. No reason is given as to why.

- In attribute settings dialogs (e.g., Linetypes Dialog), when I try to Rename the attribute in such a way, it is not executed when I click the OK button in the Rename Dialog, and it displays the message: "Name already exists".

So, it seems like it is possible to do in the Attribute Manager, but nowhere else.

I will report this to GS HQ.

I doesn't work in Attribute Manager either.

Are you sure you are using the old Attribute Manager and not the new Attribute Palette?

There is a difference.

Yes, I am pretty sure.
