Old Drawings in New Archicad - The Library Issue

Hi all,
trick question maybe, but having a) only just started using Archicad and b) not been working long for current firm, have noticed a few errors creaping when opening older version drawings, namely with regard to the library and library items.

Two things happen, first is needing to find and load previous versions of libraries, i.e. Library 6.5, Library 7.0 Etc etc to get the drawing to open with most of the library items still showing. (This doesn't always work and you still have to renew some items, like a particular window type for instance.
The second is the over dupulication of library parts, and the extremely long list you get.

My first question is, is their a way of doing a catch all so it replaces previous version library parts with your current version library?
The second question is, if you have to load all the libraries, is there a way to remove the excessive dupulicated library parts. or does this not affect AC anyway, and should be a worry.
