Roof Surfacer - how does one work with it?

Hello all - I am trying to use the roof surfacer object (standing seam), and I cannot figure out how to go about placing and editing the object.

When I select the object and place it in plan, I get a trapezoidal shape (with a square hole cut in the middle) that I cannot edit, reshape, or resize (I have tried using it in versions 8.1 and 9.0). There is NO documentation on how to use the object in the either the archicad manual or the help system, and the only posts on this site have been regarding lining up the standing seams once the object has been placed successfully. It would be much appreciated if someone could let me in on the secret of getting a standing seam detail to show on my roofs.

Thanks in Advance!

You must select the roof first, then run the add-on from Extras | Accessories | Roof Accessories. The selected surface (metal, tiles, etc.) will be applied to the selected roofs - matching the pitch and with holes associatively connected to any skylights.

Same process for wall accessories, etc.

If you grab the surfacer from the library as an object, it is unconnected to any roof and you have to manage the pitch, etc. yourself.

Karl - thanks for reply. I did do a search but I think I missed the fact that there was more than one page returned when the results appeared. Thanks again.

Hi! Where is the roof surfacer tool in AC26?

It is part of the Accessories Goodie.

The Goodies is a separate download and install:

https://graphisoft.com/downloads/goodies/ac26

After you install Accessories, you will also have to link the Accessories library that is installed along with the Accessories Add-On.

Hello Laszlo,

Was something changed in programming since AC24? I have been using the Roof Surfacer on all my projects and it started behaving very weird in 25.

It is not showing up on floor plan and sections/elevations - randomly.

Also, in a saved out pdf a barrel tile will load tile by tile for minutes.

I never experienced these before...

I do not know whether its code changed or not.

If you are having these issues you should report them to your local reseller so they can help try to solve it or send it to Graphisoft if it is indeed a bug.
