teamwork and marquee box

Aussie John
Newcomer
a teamate is assigned part of a storey (limited by marquee), but I can't get access to the area outside the marquee, how do I access this area?
Drawing another marquee box that covers everything else except the teammates area seems a dumb way to do it.

It may seem dumb but I don't think there is any alternative (if you need access to the same layers). I suppose there might be something you could do with hotlinked modules but that seems dumber.

Correct, once a Teammate defines their workspace with a Marque, all subsequent Teammates must also use the Marque to define their workspace on the shared Stories.

And unfortunately you cannot even draw a large marquee and then cut a 'hole' in it to omit the other team mates area. You need to carefully work your way around the edge of the other marquees and avoid any overlap.
This was made all the more difficult for us when one individual decided to draw his marquee in the shape of a dog with lots of spiky hair! Fun to look at when signing in, but hellish to try to work with!

this is not the case as long as the teammates with marquees leave some, (and the same), layers free. we are currently working with three of us signed in as follows: two of us have marquees covering each half of the building and the third is signed in to a series of layers that we have left for him across the whole plan.

is your issue with the actual signing-in, or working outside of an area that you already have? as long as you have the relevant layers, you can create new elements outside of your workspace that remain assigned to you until you choose to release them for other teammates during a 'send and receive'

Yes you can do what you are saying... If you do this,... And leave that,... And be sure to...

We found that working with the Marquee on the same Story works most efficiently when the teammate reserves ALL layers inside there Marqueed area. Much less confusion (and hassel). But to each their own...

i think that it depends on the kind of information a teammate is working on. i agree that there often is confusion! however we don't want to limit teammates working on packages of production information whilst others are implementing major design changes in localised areas of the building.

layers/layer combinations can be tailored to specific jobs and the expected method of working. domestic jobs require a different construction documentation and management approach to retail jobs, etc . . .

David,

I know this is a really old post, but I'm curious as to why? (See above). I'm having a problem with users loosing their changes after a send and receive. This only happens when their workspace is defined by a marquee. Could it be that someone else has signed out whole stories while they are marqueed?

Thanks
