Thanks Djorde.....i've just downloaded a demo version of the Artlantis and see how user-friendly it is.....thanks!
Once there, also try AV Works. Works inside ArchiCAD, with the Art•Lantis like reflections and refractions, and shadows.

Miles away from the standard ArchiCAD engine.

But, then, there is the Sketch ...

Ben,

Thank you for your offer! I would be very interested as the quality of the renderings (seen to date) seem quite exciting ... and google only throws up about 10 hits ...

I'm _almost_ at the point of spending 1000+$ on a C4D bundle ... but if ALumos is coming out 'next month' .... ?

TIA - Stuart

Ben,

thanks for your reply in the thread http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?p=1281#1281

I have one more question: If Archilumos starts an external application, does that mean that you can quit Archicad or start working on something else in it while ARchilumos is rendering? Or do you have to wait for it to finish first?

I would just like to confirm that despite that there is very little infor about Archilumos available outside of Japan (and Sweden) the program IS translated to English and there IS an English manual delivered with it. You should be able to order it, or the demo, from http://www.lasercad.se/ where you'll find e-mail links (try Ben O'Donnell 😉 or Robert Priller, they are fluent).

Dwight A, who showed some screen dumps of it on ACUE in Nottingham, said it could give very nice results but it was a bit slow (as most radiosity solutions are). Ben says (thread link above) it has the Shade radiosity engine, and since that one is regarded as one of the best, the results should be pretty good.

Dwight also had some comments on it on the old Archicad-Talk maillist. Try this search:
http://www.escribe.com/software/archicadtalk/search.html?query=archilumos
and you'll find the info available there.

However, I have not been able to confirm this, but I have reason to believe that Graphisoft is preparing for something else, and that is the reason that Archilumos isn't already marketed vigorously.

I do hope for a mature, well-reknown, cross-platform AND G5-optimised renderer like Lightworks.

It has to be something special to beat Archilumos, and this one would fit like hand-in-glove with what Archicad needs.

While at it, I might add that I hope for it to be implemented in such a way that it doesn't occupy an Archicad license while rendering (it's OK to require it to start), and that it doesn't add too much to Archicad's already quite hefty price tag!

I couldn't agree more with you about Lightworks. This baby, as you said, would fit ArchiCAD like a glove. But as stefan pointed out it should definitely be incorporated into ArchiCAD, or free for ArchiCAD users.

Interesting to read your comments about Lightworks and Archilumos, and while I would love to have a lightworks rendering engine built in , I cant help think that GS would rather sell us a "archilumos style " bolt on application, that way they can charge us another 700 bucks or so.

I do hope Im wrong however .

Im really looking forward to GS binning the standard rendering engine, it sucks.

Im off to the wish list section.........

ArchiLumos is interesting but they keep it hidden. Let's hope that they are in some way trying to prepare it for worldwide release (and better still: included in ArchiCAD for free).
What a great idea .. I hope Graphisoft is listening..
