Black rectangle around billboard trees in 3d document

Hello

Is it possible to show 2d images like trees and silhouettes in a 3d document?
In the generic axonometry view the tree is visible, even though there is a box surrounding it, but when i create a 3d document from this view the tree is replaced by a black rectangle. Is it possible to show a 2d image in a 3d document? And if so, how can I let this image face the camera?
