Try using a different pre-set scene in the render settings.
Otherwise try adjust the light settings for sun, materials and lamps.
Also play around with the sky settings in the Environment section.

Using the pre-set scenes is the easiest unless you know what you are doing.

I was modeling in ArchiCad 16 that imported to 18.. Is that the problem?

I am sure I read a post about old file not rendering straight away in 18.
I am sure Karl Ottenstein had something to say about it but I can't remember for sure.

I did find this post that may help if you read through it but it is not the post I remember reading.

I'll keep looking for the post I was thinking of.

I just had an instance of Black Rendering I thought I should report: turned out CineRender thought the camera was inside a wall, even though the openGL view in the 3d window was unobstructed. Just stepping forward a few cms solved it. This is probably not the cause of other Black Rendering problems, but still: something to watch out for.

I've had this problem before, and just encountered it again... turning off Use Physical Renderer fixes it (click on the Detailed Settings checkbox just above the Render Settings drop-down to access this).

I've been through all the settings within the Physical Renderer, but can't find which causes the problem, so I'm at a loss to explain why it happens, sorry. Can anyone else hazard a guess?

it might be system related. your 4GB ram may not beable to render fast , so it GO black. up grade to 8GB

This worked for me too.
I opened a new file, and then merge the old file.
It worked.
