Yes, the profile needs to be a fill, so you need to magic wand (space bar) a fill onto the circle.
You may need to check your magic wand settings and make sure the tracing method is set to 'Best Match'.
This will give you curves in the profile (for the fill) but Archicad will automatically segment it when placed as a beam.
If you use 'Linear Segments' for tracing then the fill will be segmented (not curved) and you will see lines along your beam.

You should say what version of Archicad you are using and ideally your Operating system.
It is best to add that info to your profile signature.

If you are using version 23 then the beam tool now has a circular option.
If not then you must use a complex profile beam and create a circular complex profile to use with the beam tool.
It won't be a true circle as it will be segmented.
The smaller the radius, the more you will notice the segmentation.
There is nothing you can do about that.

Thanks for the quick reply Barry, now I know where to look.

I'm quite new to archicad still. Using version 22.

I got stuck trying to create the profile now.

I use the circle tool in profile view to create a new profile. But I can't save it and I can't figure out how to fill it. When I choose the fill tool and click on the circle nothing happens. It just starts drawing a polygon.
