How to copy details from one file to another?!

Chadi SAROUFIM

I have created some independent details in ArhiCAD 10, how do I copy them from one file to another!??

One of the great missing features of Archicad.
You need to copy and paste or more methodically save as modules, then import into new details.
Same if you need to import any section information added to the Model view.

This needs to be addressed as merging files only gives you the plan information.

It's surprising to see that you are asking ArchiCAD questions at all Chadi!

Life must be very dangerous in Lebanon at the moment - are you close to the trouble?

Hope you keep safe!

Cheers,
Link.

Dear Link,

Thank you for your concern, and yes our offices are opened. We are not very far from the bombing area but we are considered in Beirut in the Christian area safe until now. We have offices and projects in Egypt, Switzerland and Los Angeles and most of the design is being prepared in Lebanon so we cannot close. Thanks to the internet and the teamwork functionality of ArchiCAD the files are stored on our servers and shared.

We are all hoping that this ends soon and we go back to our normal lives.

Smile

I think most people in the world are hoping for that too.

Keep safe.

Cheers,
Link.

ArchiCAD problems seem trivial by comparison...... but with regard to your independant details, can you not "import" them into your project layout using File>External content>Place External drawing in the same manner as in Plotmaker 9? Or am I on the wrong track, as usual?

All the best

So you can

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something, but in the "Open" dialog of AC10 there is a small checkbox "Launch a new instance of Archicad". This way, you can have more than one project open at once. And copy and paste between them.

This is of course a good thing, but not heavily marketed by GS.

And of course we all hope that the war will end soon!

[If I haven't misunderstood the issue] You can select the browse option on the navigator menu while under layout book view. It will then allow you to drag layouts from other .pln files into your new layout. This is similar to the handy plotmaker 9 feature where you would choose import a layout book and you could then tick off which layouts you wanted.
