Archicad 25 crashes on particular file

I am experiencing problems with this one particular file, but maybe it would be better if I explain a bit what has happened previously, so maybe it helps a bit with resolving the problem.

So, the file was created in AC23, and it was a Teamwork file.
The project one day was put on standby and no one worked on it for some time.
In the meantime, our studio upgraded to AC25 and the IT person had uninstalled AC23 with any prior notice, without any reason whatsoever.
After the project started again, first thing I noticed is that AC23 was missing from my computer and that I cannot open the file. Long story short, the IT person managed to find some recovery file (many things were missing though from the last stand) and after I started working with the project in AC25 (as a single file, not Teamwork), Archicad just keeps crashing whenever I:

- try to open, delete certain section or elevation
- try to open / publish / delete the Layouts of the sections and elevations

- try to close certain windows from the tab above

Working with floor plans goes smoothly, but sections and elevations impossible. AC25 keeps on crashing.

Any possible solution?

Thank you!

Are you using Macs by any chance?

There was a known bug where 25 will crash when closing a window in the TAB bar.

It has been fixed with update 5010, so make sure you are up to date.

Otherwise I would try opening the file with the repair option.

Open the file trough the FILE menu in Archicad and you will see the 'Open & Repair' option.

The '.LCK' file has not been deleted, so it thinks the file is already open.

You can delete that file - it will be in the same folder as the .PLN.

Or open as read only and then 'Save As' with a new name.

Which may not be a bad thing if you are having trouble with a file.

It never hurts to have more copies.

If you ever get to fix the problem and you are happy with the current file, you can then delete all of the old ones.

We are all using Windows 10.

I forgot to mention that when I try to close the file, the regular window pops up whether I want to save the changes or not, I click YES and then Archicad crashes.

Then I have tried to open the file as you have suggested with the 'Open & Repair' option, but it says that the file is already opened by the same user and if I want to proceed as Read-Only.

Genius!!! It worked. Thank you so much for the support Barry, the file works perfectly fine now.

That's good to know. 😀
