Text Editing

My firm is in the process of a possible switch to ArchiCAD and I've been using it for about a week now. I am using 8.1 on a G5 and I have been having problems entering/editing text. When i enter my text, it is not visible on the screen until I click out of the command, independant of background color. Similarly, when I edit text, the entire block disappears. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks.
(Sorry if I'm in the wrong forum.)

You are in the right forum.

I don't quite understand your problem. How about a screen shot?

Option 1
Do a new and reset and see if the text tool works ok.
Option 2
turn OpenGL acceleration off in 2D
Option 3
trash Archicad's prefs and cache

BtW we need more info on the AC version you are running R1/R2. But any of the above might help.

a screen shot will not help since the text disappears.
maybe a better explanation:

I click on the text command.
I double click where i want my text to be placed.
I enter my text line and nothing is visible.
I click on the arrow tool the text appears.

similarly when i edit text lines:

i select the existing text line.
select the text command.
put the curser over the text line and click.
The text disappears until i am done editing.

There is another firm that uses AC in my building and I have asked them about my problem. The answer that i get is along the lines of
"it shouldn't do that" or, "hmmm..... I cant help you".

I didn't understand that one initially, but I found it. I'm sure I'll be back with a few more questions inthe near future. Thanks again for the help.

Actually, I have one now:
Is there a way to place a counter over a Dishwasher? I placed a drawer over it without a door, but the cabinet carcass is still there.
