Cover fill orientation 3D / 2D

Hi!

I have a slab that has a surface layer has Wood. i have 2 problems with the texture orientation:

1. In plan, the texture is tilted a little bit, im guessing because i rotated my plan view and the fill is aligned orthogonally with thew original plan view? How can i align the fill with my current view? Or do i have to rotate the whole model and use 0.0º on my plan view?

2. The 3D texture orientation does not match the plan view, in fact it is rotated 90º to what I want. Shouldnt they be showing with the same orientation?

Cheers,

Z

Do not rotate it like you would an object (ex with Ctrl+E). It will rotate the entire element.
Just move the individual points.

After:

Note that the angle of the sides can also be changed, and you can make the fill distorted:

Hi,

Select " Link to fill Origin" you'll be able to choose the Orientation.

Hi,

You can edit the cover fill orientation of the slab, make it either Custom Distortion (then edit the tiny arrows like you would with a regular fill) or make it link to the Fill Origin.

Regarding the matching of the 3D texture, you can make sure from the surfaces menu that the cover fill and texture have the same scale and orientation. Alternatively, you can rotate the 3D texture from Document - Creative Imaging - Align 3D texture. (be sure to do this in 3D).

Hi!

The custom Distortion is not working for me, as it is rotating my whole slab when i just want to rotate the hatching...

These are the editing points for fill rotation and dimensioning. It should be a triangle there

Yes, i used those point, and it rotated the texture + the whole slab!

Ohhh, ok! I got it now. Thanks a lot for the help.

Question: Is there a way to reorient the hatches having as reference the angle on the plan view? Example: if i have my plan view rotated 25º for design comodity purposes, could i make all the hatches adjust to the angle of that viewpoint?

Z

One very unorthodox way of doing it would be to change the settings of the cover fill (Options - Element Attributes - Fills)
Change the fills you want rotated (ex for tiles and floor finishings) to desired value. And it should change everywhere. Also be mindful that you have to revert back to original fill orientation, instead of the two lines mentioned above.

Ok, i get it. Thank you very much. I think its a dangerous thing to do for the workflow, better to be doing it case by case! 🙂

Still on the subject, i have a mesh (terrain) and i placed a surface texture on top. But on the mesh menu it doesnt seem to allow me to control the "custom orientation" fill. What do i have to do?

Cover fill =/= texture

Cover fill is the 2D display, but the texture is for 3D.

In order to rotate the 3D texture, it you have to be in 3D view, go to Document - Creative Imaging - Align 3D texture. (be sure to do this in 3D).

It can be done on multiple objects at once. You can either set origin or direction. Try to experiment with it.
