Can someone from Graphisoft please step up and own the current abject failure to deliver the renewed MEP Modeller?
Today I joined the many others who have had to return to using AC26 in order to deliver on our MEP commitments.
We all pay out for GS to deliver improvements to AC, yet here we are 7 months later with a key feature broken & software we can't use. Can someone at least tell us what we can expect in terms of delivery of fixing this MEP debacle and when?
It's bad enough struggling with the 3D screen "grey outs", and the disappointment of new features that suddenly became experimental, but finding a fundamental tool is no longer useable... 🙄
Solved! Go to Solution.

I agree with you on all, except one thing: no one is obligued to them on anything, even if that means using other options, and there ARE options; they also have existing and up-and-coming competition, and everything is evolving. They better up their game quickly.

I have been using Archicad since version 7. I am only now being asked to model MEP. So I thought I would try and learn. I am currently using AC27 and am planning on updating it to 28. From what I can see MEP moddeler in 27 is completely useless and I can't even find good tutorials online for how to use it. Has this been addressed on 28 I would like to know if it's worth migrating projects across. I am disappointed that GS would market this as a solution when it is not working well or at all, for that matter. Based on this discussion a lot of people are upset. Can you confirm if it is fully functional in 28 or even usable?

So for now
Isolation setting seems to work more often but not alwawys sometimes u still have to manually set it up manually cus it forgets its settings
You can move drawn instalation alike in 25 with but there are no breaking point so if u move to far its breaking connections.
If you change diameter for pipes that are already drawn weird things happen sometimes.
2d view is broken very often when drawn on 3d not in 2d for example valves hides under pipe not on top of it and weird white things show up inplace of connection.
Sometimes when moving parts of instalation vertically tee s break Apart and doesnt move with the rest of.
Socket joints act weird and sometimes create big plate things.
There is no option to place single elbow so complex sewage sanitary is a pain.
Still no oval ducts
No easy option to delete single elements ie elbows
Big plus that it is possible to draw mep on cross-sections
It is now possible to set up ducts alined to the left or top etc not only center connections
Dont know for me its unusable its experimental at best

Let me tell you something. Prior to ARCHICAD 25 there was nothing wrong with MEP. I used it on every project and it was never questioned by the Building Officials. In addition to creating detailed layouts for 10 years I was modelling whole or partial plans and submitting them for permits.

Unfortunately, the MEP in AC26 was excellent and we needed simple additions. Now in AC28 it has become restricted. You cannot fill elements or create multiple labels and properties, and it also does not accept stretching...

It would seem (from promotional material for the Technology Preview version), that they re-did it all over again and have re-branded it.
Now it's going to be the "MEP Designer"
Basically same thing with a new coat of paint.
But interestingly enough is when you think about it, the MEP Addon/Tool/Designer, is the one tool in Archicad that's now gotten a refresh and re-release in every new version going all the way back to as far back as Archicad 25 or 24. And each time released as a buggy, half-baked, problematic, and 'should-have-left-it-in the-oven-a-bit-longer' version that's increasingly becoming emblematic and characteristic of archicad itself as a whole.
In fact, I believe the original MEP addon (it wasn't an intergrated part of Archicad yet back then,) was introduces as far back as Archicad version 20 or 19.
It's crazy when you consider that an non-architecture "core" tool or specifically architecture related tool gets all this attention in these many versions, but even something as basic as the wall tool or doors or windows get ignored for literal DECADES.
But hey, at least we get an 'AI assistant Tool'* to help us somehow............wait what?..........only available only to people already on subscription?
But I thought we're not going fully subscription-only until after the end of next year (presumably archicad 30)?
Does this mean that yet again people who are currently only on perpetual will get screwed over (ostensibly as a means of trying to coax them to switch over)....again*?
Graphisoft sure do have an odd way of trying to entice people to upgrade to their new versions.
(*to be fair,.....not that I really care.
Graphisoft have displayed a massive misunderstanding of how AI can be used to actually help people design better and more effeciently and their application of it so far seems more an attempt to make sure they don't get left out of jumping onto the AI bandwagon rather than creating something really innovative and forward thinking that helps DESIGN - as we'd expect to see from an archicad release like 10 or 15 years ago.)
