Make only screened porch transparent

NILAM
Booster

Is there to make a foreground object opaque in elevation/interior elevation, but keep any glass in the background opaque?

I am thinking about a screened porch with a screen door where we want to see the windows in the screened porch opaque.

Another situation would be a glass shower door where we want to see through the door, but not through the window in the shower.

Operating system used: Mac Apple Silicon 14.2.1 Sonoma

The only way is to have transparent and non-transparent materials.

Your section/elevation has transparency turned on.

Elements you want to see through need a transparent material, and those you don't want to see through have a non-transparent material.

Effectively you will need transparent glass and non-transparent glass.

Non-transparent glass being below the transparency theshold for the basic engine. I assume the theshold is just 50/51 transmittance? There was a thread somewhere around here that mentioned it. Not sure if there is any difference if you have your elevations set to use the Surface Texture.

Another option is to put the objects you want to be transparant in a layer with the wireframe display

The problem with that is windows can not be in a separate layer to walls.

So if the screened porch consists of walls with windows, it won't work if the walls are not completely cut by the window (i.e. some of the walls are to be visible and non-transparent).

Plus any window frames will also be transparent.

Can you make a material that is transparent in 3D, but not in section or elevation?  I'm struggling to make this work.

oh thanks!  this might work for us.  I'll give it a try

Transparency in elevations and sections is dependant on a threshold, not if it is actually transparent, so as long at you are just above that threshold, "glass" will appear opaque.

Sure.

Transparency of 51 and above will be completely transparent in elevation.

In 3D, transparency of zero is solid, anything else will have a varying degree of transparency.

Colours also come into play in 3D.
