Mis-mesh

I constructed an organic form(a solid balcony) that clings to an acute angle corner of a two-story wall by drawing the profiles of the form every three inches using the mesh tool. Each 'slice' was drawn as a separate mesh. How can these be combined into a single mesh so it will render as a solid in the 3D window?

it actually looks relatively easy - unless there are double curves on those seemingly flat folds?

just use the roof tool . . .

if you feel the need to use a mesh, it looks regular enough that you can use the 'mesh-to-roof' tool once the final mesh skin has been defined.

alternatively, there is a 'tensile roof' library object that can be found in the /special construction/basic shapes library . . .

ayman wagdy, Might I interject that you are in good hands. ~/archiben and Peter Devlin(if he gets a look-see at this) are far beyond competent problem-solvers.
Your folded plate roof is beautiful and well suited for long span applications. Can I ask why the 'opposing tapers' of each cell?

i think now may roof will be more understood,i hope

i make this roof in 3dmax,i try and try more than you can belive to do this in Archicad but i couldn't

how can i do this? mesh and also roof couldn't be array on double curved path

Ayman,
You are correct. Making the roof with roofs is too difficult
because the assembly undulates. If all the roof ridges lay in a plane
it could be done with the roof tool.
I think the only way is to use the mesh tool to make the ridges and
valleys then use a de-elevated copy and SEO to get the folded plate shape.

DEAR,PETER
i think the way of using mesh will take hours and hours of time and 100%
it will be very bad and not correct ,nice try

i make this folded plate in 35 second in 3dmax and it's 100% correct and nice

i used spacing tool in 3dmax after a draw one part using archicad roof tool
and it done very fine
the Qs. is how i can get it in archicad fast and correct
thanks anyway for help

Anything that takes 35 seconds is the way to go, why look elsewhere, fool?

use the 'Import 3D studio...' add-on? it can be found in the goodies folder and loaded using the add-on manager . . .

but it will come in as a dumb surface object - no intelligent archiCAD information. i still think that this could be done relatively quickly using archiCAD itself (but not 35 seconds!). send me a few key setting out drawings/dimensions and i'll have a go? e-mail below . . .

Now with the SEO successfully trimming walls and skylight wells, I've encountered another problem. This roof consists of two meshes(I tried to make it a single mesh) which meet at the center ridge. I have been creating holes for the skylight wells (as seen in the lower left), but am having trouble with the wells that traverse the ridge and occupy both roof planes. I have tried to create two separate holes on each plane, but this creates an open polygon and makes the entire roof plane disappear. Is this a good time to use the 'mesh to roof' add-on?

garytom,
You shouldn't use the make hole command if the hole will
intersect the edge of the mesh.
Use the subtract from mesh pet pallet option.
