Trouble getting door symbol to show up on 2 stories

If I insert a door with a transom above it that extends up into the story above it, the whole door floor plan symbol shows up on the upper story. I'd like to only see the transom show up (looking like a window only in plan)... is there a way to have this show up correctly? I tried to use the curtainwall doors, too, and the same thing happened.

Thanks.

Select your wall and for the projection method choose "Cut Only." This will only show doors or windows that are present at your 2D window's active cut plane height for that story. If your door or transom is present at that height on the second floor then it will show. If it is not present at that height, it will hide.

If you choose the "Projected" method of displaying the wall, then it will work with range values in the cut plane settings.

The wall is set to "Cut Only," and it still shows up incorrectly. The second floor is 15' above the first, the door is 8' high with a transom of 24' above it (divided into 5 sections)... yet the floor plan symbol on both stories looks like a door (with the door and its swings shown).

What else can I check?

Thanks!

If your upper cutplane is above the door, it should not be seen. Try setting the door settings to Projected.

But if I change the setting to Projected, doesn't that change how it's seen on the first floor, as well?

As a separate issue, can I get the door tag to show up on the first floor but not the floor above it?

haha.
I am watching this post.
I have cursed and sworn over this planty of times before.

So, I cheated, and I drew fills and lines to represent to window portion.

The other times when I find these similar issues are a total pain for me is windows at landings of stairs, and little bathroom windows that are high in the wall.

Good luck, I'll be waiting for some genious answer here too.

Bill,
Your 'transom' is enormous. Why don't you think of it as it will be built as a separate entity from the door. Show the door on its correct story and the door tag will show appropriately. The 'transom' which is really a window in its own right can be inserted on the second story and show appropriately on that story.

One of the rules of thumb about modeling is to model as it will be built.
Not that there aren't times to ignore the rule(s)

It sounds like I will break it up into a door, with a separate window assembly above it. But the fact is that the way it'll be built IS AS a single assembly, which would come solely from the storefront fabricator... so I HAVE to model this differently from how it would be built, I guess.

When modeling this as two objects, the head of the door frame and the sill of the window are, in effect, the same. When I've done this before I've simply overlapped the two - is there a way to turn on or the other off so that I don't duplicate elements?

Thanks for the replies.
