modeling a chair

Hi. I've just started my work with Archicad. My job is to make furnitures in it. I'm trying various tutorials but I still have a lot of problems. What I work now is a chair from that tutorial:

It seems so easy but not for me.
First: I don't know how to make this base. I have problem with splitting it even and making it symetrical.
Second: I tried to extract a morph planar along the curve but I can't figure that out. Around 0:10 icons changed and I don't know why.

That section profile is a Morph element already. A Morph can be as simple as an edge in 3D, a planar shape, or as complex as a 3D body. The icon in the Info Box changes because the Morph element is selected. Prior to that nothing is selected, so no icon is in the Info Box.
What you see in the clip happens in the 3D Viewpoint. I think what he did is first he has drawn the profile on the Chair in the Floor Plan Viewpoint using the Polygonal Geometry method of the Morph (this part is not shown on the video, only the resulting profile). Then he went to the 3D Window and used the Tube command of the Morph to extrude the Morph profile along a 3D path. I think the 3D path was also created earlier using the Polygonal Geometry method of the Morph. So you see the planar Morph that is in the X-Y plane being extruded along a 3D polygon.

After that it is just mostly about cleverly selecting only the Morph node sand edges he needs and manipulation those.

I would recommend that you watch the following full playlist that will get you fully familiarized with the capabilities of the Morph Tool:

Tried it out myself.
Setup a morph-face on the grid or on quide-lines.
Draw a pulling-line as morph-line.
Rotate the pulling-line vertically.
Give the morph-face a color.
After that first pull the morph-face over a distance of 1 mm and then along the pulling-line.

Made a video of it: Video

Shaping it is another story.
