What I am suggesting is that it is better to begin with a graphisoft template. First blitz all the stuff that you don't need. Then use attribute manager to import layers and other stuff that is specific to your setup.
It was during the same AC version transition that I noticed our office standard work environment did not include any of the new AC11 features like Virtual Trace in the menu bars. Why? Because if you don't start with the graphisoft template you will have no idea what you are missing.None of that's in the template, Whether you start with yours or Graphisoft's, that's still in the Work Environment.

I tend to import my old profile and use the New Commands drop down option in the Work Environment dialog to add to them. Maybe Ben will suggest a better or alternative method?.

We have a project that we migrated from AC11 to AC12. It worked fine for a while, but now, if you make a few changes then jump to another window (like a section or detail) it locks up. You have to kill the AC12 process and open it up again. This has happened seven times this morning alone. This happened two weeks ago on a different project that was migrated from AC11 to AC12. Has anybody else seen this kind of behavior? Is it fixable?Tom said:

The problem with that method is that all your custom View Sets, Favorites, Tool Defaults, Publisher sets, Model View Options, and story structure gets blown away. That's the stuff that's hardest to recreate. As Karl pointed out earlier to the poor guy who start this thread, many of the new 12 objects have to be recreated to take advantage of the new features anyway. This is also true of the additional features in the Model View Options, Tool Bar, Menu Items, etc. For our firm we have found it is more straightforward to start with the GS template blitz almost everything and add our stuff into it. It's clean and reduces potential problems like the guys in paragraph 1 are having.
Well so far importing my previous favorites from V11, all cabinets, windows, doors and some misc other library parts are all greyed out so I assume those V11 favorites parts don't have the same GUID as the V12.to which Karl replied:
Some late nights ahead of me of redoing favorites.

Replacing Favorites for any object-type tools is a slow, manual process that even parameter transfer cannot solve because of the types of changes that have been made... Only the AC 12 library parts 'know' about partial wall display (core only, etc) and so all old Window/Door Favorites have to be replaced if that functionality (and lots of other new 12 window/door functionality) is desired. No easy way around it.Karl you seem completely at odds with your own statements here. In one case telling someone they have to rebuild their favorites the hard way, while advocating a complete shoot from the hip mentality about version migration, which get you back to the guys in paragraph 1. I am frankly very disappointed by this and the fact that you resorted to attacking my intelligence.

Karl, I can assure that I am NOT the one who is confused.

From what I've seen, yeah, you are.Dude, now you are just being mean.
There's no reason to recreate objects, tool bars, or anything else from version to version.I never said to recreate them. I just said to use the ones that come out of the box and modify them to your liking.
How many Archicad upgrades have you actually been through? How many of them have gone well for you?

I'm am confused:http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=23615
]I loaded AC11 and there is no option in the Palettes for either the "Trace and Reference" or "Check Markers" tools. I went into the keyboard commands and found Trace and Reference but even when I hit the command nothing happens, nothing pops up. This is so odd because in my other office I've been using AC11 all year. I've never seen this happen. - some dude named dwyss

Tom and Karl are talking from both sides of their mouths:
Tom said this:
I really hate that install option. It's the "You don't REALLY want to use the new features, do you?" button.
Karl said this:
I hate the import option as well, since many users blindly use it.
