IDs become important because they are the way that AC actually thinks about attributes. For example, bringing in fills with the same name but different IDs can cause problems for composites and materials, because those atts pick up their fills based on the ID. Objects' default attributes can get messed up this way too. Live and learn.I am interested in the ability to change attribute ID's. Using attribute manager always brings a little frustration since every item is listed by ID's and is not in the same order that you are accustomed to using them (usually alphabetical). Fills (when using them in Archicad) have always had one baffling feature in that there are two sets of fills, both of which are alphabetical. It seems like the ones I have added have been added to the second group. Attribute manager certainly could use a better means to sort and order all of the attributes.
Changing IDs deliberately is another topic. If Link is around, he has investigated this thoroughly and can tell you more.
HTH,

You can sort by any column in Attribute Manager: just click on the column header you want it sorted by (in AC 8 it works). Thanks Laszlo. Sometimes the obvious eludes me...
